Hello how are things going? Just finished week 4 of 6 in this transfer
and it was great.
Monday was a lot of running around preparing for the week
however we now are able to have fresh bread a couple times a week because I
finally went and bought flour and yeast to use with a bread machine I found for
five dollars at a thrift store, it’s great. That evening we stopped by Danielle
and Justin's and talked with them for a little bit and arranged to come back
the next day.
Tuesday was great we went tracting midday on Tripoli St. and
about the fifth house that we knocked on a woman opened the door and invited us
in. She introduced herself as Brittney and asked who we were and what we were
doing, so we shared about the book of Mormon and told her about the church.
Britney said she wanted to learn more and invited us back Friday to talk with her
and her husband. Later we went and talked to Danielle and Justin we talked
about the word of wisdom and coming to church. They really got interested in
the discussion and even brought up point and examples we had made in previous
visits. We asked them if they would come to church and if we could come over
Friday and they said yes to both.
Wednesday was busy we must have walked across town two or
three times trying to visit people. While we didn't actually see many of the people
we wanted to we did talk to a few people on the street and pass out some Books
of Mormon.
Thursday morning was taken up by our weekly district
meeting. Elder Banks our district leader presented a really good training on
how to give street lessons, which are just share one gospel principle and
extend an invitation ton act on it (i.e. read, go to church, talk with us more,
etc.). On our way back to Mexico
we stopped in Auxvasse and talked with a man named Ben. Ben is a really interesting
person with an incredible knowledge of the bible. We mainly talked about the
Plan of Salvation and the necessity of the Book of Mormon. It was good we asked
him to read some scriptures out of the Book of Mormon and he pointed us to
first John chapter five (It’s about those that believe on Christ are saved and
is an excellent chapter).
Friday was odd, really odd. First most of our appointments
fall through or tell us they are no longer interested, so we went street
contacting and met Dakota, Ann, Wilbert and some woman wasn't interested. The
first three that we met though filled out the rest of the day and Saturday with
later appointments. We talked with Ann about the church a little bit but she
had somewhere to be, so gave her a restoration pamphlet and she said we could
come back Saturday. We met Dakota on his front porch and after we introduced
ourselves he asked a few questions about the plan of salvation which we talked
about and explained. After talking to him for a while we needed to head out and
he asked us to comeback Saturday so we left him with our number and a book of
Mormon and pointed him to Alma
40. Wilbert we met after an appointment that fell through. We talked on his
back step about families and he invited us to comeback at eight which we gladly
did. At eight we gave him a family proclamation to the world and went over that
with him and asked if he would be interested in learning more about the church.
He said he was and invited us over on Tuesday.
Saturday was another odd day we spent a good amount of
time running between Auxvasse , Mexico , and Centralia to visit everybody. We met with Ann
again and talked about God and the Atonement and prayer. She seems interested
in the gospel said she wants to go to youth activities on Wednesday. We then
ran out to Auxvasse to meet a less active family that go to Fulton . They were really hospitable and said they
had been planning on going to church that week.
Sunday was a little slower paced. After church we went out
and visited a less active member and taught him the stop smoking workshop. He participated
a lot and is really motivated to quit. All in all this has been a really great
week. I hope you guys are doing well and
that you get some down time soon. Send some pictures over of the family and
i'll see if i can't lay my hands on sd card reader so i can email mine over.
have an excellent week.
With love,
Elder Zach J Taylor
